A beautiful and tranquil setting where lie buried the servicemen from many allied forces who sacrificed their young lives in World War II. Maintained by the Australian War Graves Commission it is a fitting memorial honouring the fallen.

From this underground command post, General Yamamoto directed the Japanese assault on to mainland Papua New Guinea culminating in the Battle of the Coral Sea. This decisive naval and air engagement halted the Japanese surge in the South Pacific and to mainland Australia.
